Historic Preservation

With over 25 years of experience building a wide variety of homes from coastal cottages and mountain cabins to estate-size new construction, we work to understand the needs and style of our clients in the creation of their dream homes.  Residential renovations also call for clear communication between the builder and client and we make it a goal to keep these lines open throughout the process.  We strive to ensure fulfilled expectations on everyone’s part.

A look at a few of our completed projects will show our use of unique materials and designs that are considerate to Lowcountry style.  We often use responsibly-sourced reclaimed materials to create striking exterior siding, custom-made doors, and exposed beams as well as interior flooring, walls, and ceilings.  These distinctive finishes bring old-world charm to modern architecture and exhibit the true craftsmanship that goes into skillfully built homes.
Preservation plays an important role in our culture by protecting the built environment as a tangible link to our past.   The historic integrity of a building is of the utmost importance when planning a restoration project and we take this into consideration with each venture.

One of the most difficult objectives of saving historic structures is ensuring functional use while maintaining a historically correct appearance.  With considerate preservation design and adherence to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation, we turn historic restoration projects into sound investments both socially and financially.  When possible, we will apply for state and federal historic tax credits on the property owner’s behalf to maximize savings on restoration costs.
Our experience in this specialized field ranges from high end restaurants and bars to tenant uplifts, a private school, therapy center, office spaces, community regime capital projects, student housing, dance studio, and mixed-use buildings.
